Why it matters
Pages with no internal links are hard for crawlers to discover and give users no route to them. Meaningful anchors and hub to detail links also show search engines and AI answer engines how pages relate and which ones matter.
How to implement
- Link each hub page to its detail pages and each detail page back to its hub.
- Replace anchors such as click here with text that describes the target page.
- Compare your sitemap URLs with a crawl and list pages with zero internal inlinks.
- Add natural links to those pages from relevant content.
- Review pages that have no place in the navigation and decide whether they are really needed.
Checklist
- Link from hub to detail and from detail back to hub.
- Use meaningful anchor text instead of click here.
- Add natural internal links to every important page.
- Compare sitemap URLs with the crawl graph.
- Fix pages that receive 0 internal inlinks.
- For a page with no place in the navigation, question whether it is really needed.
How to audit
- Produce an inlinks and anchor distribution report.
- Filter the crawler for inlinks=0.
How UltimateSEO checks this automatically
Automated. Checked automatically: orphan pages and pages with zero inbound links in the crawl graph, plus important pages deeper than three clicks.
States used: PASS, FAIL, UNKNOWN, NOT_APPLICABLE or BLOCKED. UNKNOWN is never shown as a pass. How states work.
