Why it matters
When the title, snippet and opening paragraph point in different directions, users click expecting one thing and find another, and they leave. Search engines may rewrite or ignore metadata that does not describe the page, and AI answer engines have a harder time telling what question the page answers.
How to implement
- Rewrite each title so it states the page's real intent in natural wording, with a short brand name.
- Remove keyword lists, boilerplate and any promise of an offer or feature the page does not deliver.
- Write a unique meta description that summarises the actual answer on the page.
- Make the first paragraph repeat the same topic and answer as the title and description.
- Update or remove any year or price in the title that is no longer current.
- Review duplicate titles, missing descriptions and title and H1 mismatches across the site.
Checklist
- Put the main intent naturally in the title.
- Keep the brand short.
- Avoid keyword stuffing and boilerplate.
- Use a year or price only if it is genuinely current.
- Write a unique and accurate summary.
- Do not promise an offer or feature that does not exist.
- Do not write a keyword list.
- Reflect the real intent in the title clearly.
- Make the meta description and first paragraph match the page's real answer.
- Use specificity instead of clickbait.
- Do not turn the title into an unnatural prompt sentence just for AI.
How to audit
- Check for duplicate titles, title and H1 mismatches and stale years.
- Check for duplicate or missing descriptions and whether the description matches the content.
- Check the semantic relevance of title and snippet against the main benchmark prompts, manually or with embeddings.
