I-06 A query fan-out map of sub-needs must be created
Valuable user questions must be broken into sub-needs such as price, risk, suitability, features and local availability, and mapped to existing canonical URLs.
- Scope
- All public content
- Priority
- High priority.
- Quality bucket
- Intent and user-task fit
- Legacy coverage
- GEO-31
Why it matters
A single user question usually hides several smaller questions about price, risk, fit and availability. With query fan-out in AI Overviews and AI Mode, a site that answers only the headline question can miss the parts that decide whether it is used. Mapping sub-needs to canonical URLs shows what is covered and what is missing without creating duplicates.
How to implement
- Pick the 20 to 50 prompts that matter most to your users.
- Break each prompt into the sub-questions someone needs answered to decide.
- Map every sub-question to an existing canonical URL.
- Plan a new page, section or tool only where the map shows a content gap.
- Do not create another page for an intent that is already covered.
Checklist
- Select the 20 to 50 most valuable user prompts.
- For each prompt, list the sub-questions needed to make a decision.
- Map each sub-question to an existing canonical URL.
- If there is a content gap, plan a new page, section or tool.
- Do not create a duplicate page for the same intent.
How to audit
- Produce a prompt, sub-query and URL matrix.
