SEO & AI visibility
What an AI citation can and cannot prove
Inspect source presence, the cited page and the underlying claim separately. A citation proves only that the engine read a page; a brand mention without a citation still counts as presence, and a recommendation is a separate, stronger signal. Reports label each one apart so you can act on the right evidence.
Record the source
Keep the actual source URL returned with the answer, not only the domain or a search-result title. Preserve the prompt, answer excerpt and measurement surface so you can later inspect the context.
Check whether it supports the claim
A link to your domain establishes source presence in that observation. It does not automatically establish recommendation, accuracy or authority. Open the source page and check whether it supports the particular claim in the answer. A site root can contain less useful evidence than a specific service or documentation page.
Improve useful source material
Publish clear, original information that answers the question and can be verified. Keep business facts consistent across public pages. Use useful internal links and correct page-level metadata. Google’s guidance for Search AI features emphasises established SEO fundamentals rather than a special citation formula. No publisher can guarantee that an AI engine will cite a particular page.
