Guardrails · Branch G.A, Link and visibility manipulation
G-01 Link spam networks are prohibited
Sites must not use PBNs, paid dofollow links, excessive link exchanges, automated low-quality links or manipulative distributed links.
- Scope
- All public content
- Priority
- Gate. A FAIL stops publish or launch.
- Quality bucket
- Not scored: hard gate only
- Legacy coverage
- SEO-53
Why it matters
Links built to manipulate rankings put the whole site at risk, because Google's spam policies treat them as spam. Search engines and AI answer engines then have less reason to trust the site, and the people who visit it get no real benefit from those links.
How to implement
- Export your backlink profile and review the anchor text distribution.
- Sample referring domains and flag low-quality, paid, exchanged or automated links.
- Investigate any sudden spike in new links and find where it came from.
- Check for sitewide and footer link patterns and remove those that exist only to manipulate rankings.
- Stop buying, swapping or automating links, and earn links through genuine content instead.
How to audit
- Review the anchor text distribution.
- Sample the quality of referring domains.
- Check for sudden spikes in new links.
- Look for sitewide or footer link patterns.
How UltimateSEO checks this automatically
This control needs human evidence: a sample of referring domains, anchor text distribution and link acquisition history; a crawl of your own site cannot see your backlink profile.
States used: PASS, FAIL, UNKNOWN, NOT_APPLICABLE or BLOCKED. UNKNOWN is never shown as a pass. How states work.
