E-07 Brand name and core description must be consistent across the web
The canonical brand name, the relationship to the legal or trading name, what the business does and who and where it serves must not contradict each other across owned profiles at a basic level.

Why it matters
If a brand appears under different names or with different descriptions on different profiles, people are unsure which one is the real business. Search engines and AI answer engines try to match these mentions to one entity, and conflicting facts make that harder and can lead to wrong or mixed-up answers. Consistent Organization data and profiles give them a stable set of facts to rely on.
How to implement
- Decide the canonical brand name and how the legal or trading name relates to it.
- Record that relationship on the About page and in schema, using alternateName for real alternate names.
- Audit every owned profile and important directory, then correct anything old or wrong that you control.
- Write the one-sentence core description and the 50 word and 150 word versions, and reuse them across profiles.
- Remove unproven superlatives from the brand description and keep category, customer and location facts the same everywhere.
Checklist
- Define the canonical brand name.
- If the legal name is different, explain the relationship on the About page and in schema.
- If real alternate or trading names exist, state them with suitable fields such as alternateName.
- Audit the website, LinkedIn, YouTube, Maps and business profiles, and important directories.
- Correct old or wrong profiles that you can control.
- Write a one-sentence core description.
- Produce extended versions of 50 words and 150 words.
- Keep the main category, target customer and location facts stable.
- Do not make unproven superlatives such as 'leading', '#1' or 'best' part of the core identity.
How to audit
- Run branded searches on Google and Bing.
- Compare owned social and business profiles.
- Review the schema name and alternateName values.
- Diff the descriptions on owned profiles.
- Compare third-party descriptions against the core facts.
How UltimateSEO checks this automatically
Partly automated. The crawler checks that the brand name is consistent across title, og:site_name and schema; consistency across external profiles is confirmed by the business. The crawl gives a signal; a person decides the final state with business evidence.
States used: PASS, FAIL, UNKNOWN, NOT_APPLICABLE or BLOCKED. UNKNOWN is never shown as a pass. How states work.
